It's a beautiful morning to pour concrete for our new burn building! The facility will benefit our high school and adult Fire and EMS programs by providing live fire experiences for our students. It will be located just behind our back student parking lot and is expected to be finished this spring!

Our Teaching Professions students, along with the Good News Bible Study group, collected nearly 1,000 canned goods to donate to the Twin City Food Pantry and the Tuscarawas County Homeless Shelter. Our students have big hearts and it is showing around the holidays!

December’s Adult Education Student of the Month is Dental Assisting student Destiny Davis. Davis is a Newcomerstown High School graduate and is a stay-at-home mom. Davis was inspired to enroll in the Dental Assisting program by her sisters Dominique and Trew, who are dental assistants. Davis’ instructor, Mrs. Crystal Polen, nominated her for the recognition. “Destiny is a great student who goes above and beyond expectations. She works well with others and is a great leader,” commented Polen. Davis and her husband Seth reside in Gnadenhutten with their daughter. Upon graduation, Davis hopes to work at a pediatric dental office. She will be honored at this evening's Board of Education meeting.

Congrats to our second December Student of the Month, Hayden Fernandez! He is a senior in the Project Lead the Way/Engineering lab. Fernandez attends BCC from Strasburg, where he has been active in marching band for six years and track and field for three years. At BCC, he is a member of Drug Free Clubs of America, the National Technical Honor Society, and SkillsUSA. He has also competed in the autonomous vehicle challenge at the National Robotics Challenge. His PLTW instructor, Mr. Tim Vandeborne, nominated Fernandez for the honor. “Hayden exemplifies the qualities of a creative problem solver and innovative thinker, consistently demonstrating an unparalleled ability to tackle engineering challenges through out-of-the-box solutions and exceptional leadership,” said Vandeborne. Upon graduation, Fernandez plans to attend the Ohio State University for electrical engineering. Fernandez is the son of Meredith and Michael Fernandez. He will be honored at this evening's Board of Education meeting!

Congrats to our December Student of the Month, Layla Troyer! Troyer double labs in the Cosmetology and Business & Marketing programs at BCC. She attends BCC from Hiland. Troyer serves as the SkillsUSA vice president, interns at Hush Hair in Berlin, works at Honey and Fig Café, and is a banquet server at Der Dutchman. She is also a four-year member of the youth group at her church. Her Cosmetology instructors, Mrs. Morgan Roden and Mrs. Dina Zimmerman nominated Troyer for the honor. “Layla consistently demonstrates exceptional creativity and innovation in the Cosmetology program. Her ability to conceptualize and execute nearly any haircut, style, or business design sets her apart.” Following graduation, Troyer plans to work at a salon. Troyer is the daughter of Joe and Cheryl Troyer. She will be honored at this evening's Board of Education meeting
