Intervention Language Arts I-IV

Prerequisite: Must have an IEP
This course focuses on a review of basic grammer skills, and the continued development of reading, vocabulary, and writing skills.  Students will be exposed to different types of literature that include novels, short stories, nonfiction, drama, and poetry.  The class will emphasize writing skills, working to improve and refine writing paragraphs, essays, and business communications.  Instruction will be provided by an intervention specialist with modified textbooks and materials and accommodations.

Integrated Language Arts III

Grade: 11
Prerequisite: Language Arts II

Language Arts III, American Literature, is a year long, one credit course that focuses on reading, discussing, writing, and thinking about many facets of our changing language and literature, both fiction and non-fiction. Students will learn to think critically about the works studied in class through dialogue, both written and oral, presentations, projects, and synthesis.
In addition to classroom work, you will complete one major project per grading period. These projects may include, but are not limited to: career and research projects, poetry projects, expository and technical writing projects, speeches, and oral presentations. We will also read at least six novels or their equivalent per year. (Two class books and four independent novels.) Writing portfolios may also be kept during the school year to monitor your writing progress.
Grammar skills will be implemented throughout the year as applicable. Daily grammar lessons will be practiced on the board and grammar notebooks will be kept for weekly grades.

Enriched Language Arts III

Prerequisite: Language Arts II
Language Arts III, American Literature, is a fast paced, in depth course that focuses upon reading, discussing, writing, and thinking about many facets of our changing language and literatute, both fiction and non-fiction.  Students will learn to think critically about the works studied in class through dialogue, both written and oral, presentations, projects, synthesis, and evaluation.
In addition to classroom work, students will complete one major and one minor project per grading period. The projects will include multiple evidence-based research opportunities.  They may include, but are not limited to, career and research projects, poetry projects, expository and technical writing projects, speeches, and oral presentations.  Projects will integrate technology to enhance content.
Students will be expected to read at least six college preparatory-level books per year. (Two class books and four independent books). Writing portfolios will be kept during the school year to monitor progress using instructor, peer, and self-review techniques.
Grammer skills will be implemented throughout the year as applicable.

Students will learn to think critically about the works studied in class through dialogue, both written and oral, presentations, projects, synthesis, and evaluation. In addition to classroom work, students will complete one major and one minor project per grading period. The projects will include one traditional research paper. They may include, but are not limited to, career and research projects, poetry projects, expository and technical writing projects, speeches, and oral presentations. Students will be expected to read at least six college preparatory-level novels per year. (Two class novels and four independent novels). Writing portfolios will be kept during the school year to monitor progress using instructor, peer, and self review techniques. Grammar skills will be implemented throughout the year as applicable. Daily grammar lessons will be done on the Smart Board following the ACT format.
