Two Semesters

Grade 12

Prerequisite: Language Arts III

Language Arts IV, British Literature, is a year long, one credit course that focuses on reading, discussing, writing, and thinking about many facets of our changing language and literature, both fiction and non-fiction. Students will learn to think critically about the works studied in class through dialogue, both written and oral, presentations, projects, and synthesis.

In addition to classroom work, you will complete one major project per grading period. These projects may include, but are not limited to: career and research projects, poetry projects, expository and technical writing projects, speeches, and oral presentations. They will also read at least six novels or their equivalent per year. (Two class novels and four independent novels.) Writing portfolios may also be kept during the school year to monitor your writing progress.

Grammar skills will be implemented throughout the year as applicable. Daily grammar lessons will be practiced on the board and grammar notebooks will be kept for a weekly grade.
